Build a Well in Bangladesh

4.9 million people in Bangladesh don’t have access to safe water. In rural areas, 97% of the population relies on tube wells. Without them, people have to drink pond or lake water, which is often contaminated. Consuming water used for washing, sanitation and watering animals, causes diarrheal diseases, especially in children. For communities living in poverty and with limited access to medical support, this is crippling. Unsafe water is the single biggest obstacle to the development and health of communities in the Global East.

At Ummah Hands, we build tube wells to give clean water to village communities in Bangladesh. Tube wells provide pure ground water, which protects people from water-borne diseases. They reduce the time people spend fetching water and improve overall hygiene. Instead of walking miles for water, children can go to school, parents can earn a living, and communities can thrive.

Tube wells also enable our donors to give Sadaqah Jariyah. By giving generations of people access to clean water, you’ll be reaping ongoing rewards from a one-off donation.

‘Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, ‘The best charity is to give water to drink.’ (Al Jaami, 1113).

It costs just £450 to build a well for a village community in Bangladesh. Or just £25 a month. With proper care, such a well can last between 15 to 20 years on average. Your well will give people clean water and help save lives for years to come.

“Whoever saves one, it is as if he has saved the entire mankind.” (Quran 5:32).

Please build a well with Ummah Hands, and give clean water today. Your well can be built in your name, or in the name of a loved one for whom you want to give Sadaqah Jariyah.

What are Tube Wells?

A tube well consists of an iron pipe that is driven into the ground until water is reached. They are operated manually and can lift water from up to thirty metres below ground. Wells are dug where there are clusters of houses, and a single well can provide for several families. A tube well takes 3-4 weeks to build, though construction is sometimes dependent on the season. Some tube wells cost more, depending on the depth of the underground water.

Build a Well to Give Sadaqah Jariyah

Building a well is the perfect way to give Sadaqah Jariyah, which is a charity that will continue to benefit people even after the giver passes on. If one drink of water given to someone is considered Sadaqah, imagine the ongoing rewards of building a well, which will benefit people for years to come.

‘When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except three: a continuing charity, beneficial knowledge and a child who will pray for them.’ (Muslim, 3651).

At Ummah Hands, we’ve seen first-hand the impact of Sadaqah Jariyah in the form of tube wells. Over the past three decades, millions of tube wells have been installed across rural Bangladesh, enabling communities to develop and thrive. Please help us transform lives through your Sadaqah Jariyah. Donate to our Muslim water charity project and build a well in Bangladesh today.

Build a well to Transform Lives

Access to safe drinking water can transform lives. When people have clean water for drinking, cooking, cleaning and farming, it reduces water-borne diseases, and the overall health of a community improves.

‘Blessed is the wealth of a Muslim, from which he gives to the poor, orphans or the needy traveller.’ (Bukhari, 544), and donate today.

Having a safe water source close to their homes, means people don’t have to spend so much time searching for and fetching water. They can use this time working on their farms or earning an income; parents can spend more time with their families and children can spend more time learning.

With the availability of water, overall hygiene also improves. The irrigation of fields from a clean water source means better crops. The quality of the food improves, along with the overall health of the community.

Ummah Hands’ Muslim water charity supports areas that are hardest hit and helps those who need it most. Please give Sadaqah Jariyah today, to build a well in Bangladesh.

Ummah Hands is a UK-based charity establishment with a vision to transform the lives of the disadvantaged members of our global society.
