For poor, rural communities in Bangladesh, a mosque is more than a place for congregational prayer. It brings people together – physically and spiritually. This regular coming together gives people an opportunity to share their lives and support each other. It helps them to bond and work together for the good of the entire community. Most importantly, praying together increases feelings of unity and brotherhood – critical concepts in Islam. In many rural and poor areas in Bangladesh though, mosques either don’t exist, are in poor conditions or are too small to accommodate the congregation. If there are no/inadequate mosques in their areas, many Muslims miss out on this unifying practice of praying together.

Empower Communities – Give a Useful Space

Having a space to call their own empowers communities. A mosque acts as a community centre and is also a place for learning – where children and adults can learn about their faith and how to read the Qur’an. In many communities, especially in rural areas where other facilities are scarce, the mosque is where ghusals (washing the deceased before burial) and funerals take place when people pass away. It also acts as a venue for events, like nikaahs (weddings). With your support, we can build mosques in areas that desperately need them. Donations to our Build a Mosque Project can be made in your name or in the name of a deceased loved one. The chosen name will be inscribed on a plaque placed at the entrance wall of the mosque.

You may choose to donate to an entire mosque build or a part thereof. The average
costs based on mosque capacity are:

Small Mosque: £6000 (accommodates 50+ worshippers)
Medium Mosque: £12000 (accommodates 100-120 worshippers)
Large Mosque: £15000 (accommodates 150+ worshippers)
Extra Large Mosque: £20000 (accommodates 200+ worshippers)

Uthman ibn Affan reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, ‘Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house like it in Paradise.’ (Bukhari)

Earn Sadaqah Jariyah by Building a Mosque

By building a mosque in Bangladesh in your name or the name of a departed loved one, you or the deceased can earn Sadaqah Jariyah for eternity. That’s right – your once-off donation will earn rewards for as long as the mosque is being used by the community – perhaps, for generations to come. ‘When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except three: a continuing charity, beneficial knowledge and a child who will pray for them.’ (Muslim)
