Tube Well

In rural areas of Bangladesh, 97% of the population relies on tube wells. In the past three decades in Bangladesh, millions of tube wells have been installed to reduce diarrheal disease; especially in children. On average a tube well can last around 15 to 20 years with the care of the beneficiary. Without access to a tube, well people have to drink pond or lake water that is contaminated with bacteria and used for showering or other purposes.

With 842,000 people dying from diarrhea alone each year, unsafe water is the single biggest obstacle to the progression and health of communities in the developing world. With over 844 million people in the world living without access to clean water, this is one of the most precious gifts you can give. Access to a well means that instead of walking miles for water, children can go to school, parents can earn a living, and communities can thrive. Access to safe drinking water can transform lives. The gift of a tube well will ensure that up to 4 families have access to clean water for drinking, washing, and cooking. 

Tube wells are manually operated and can lift water from about 30 meters beneath the ground. They are designed to last at least 10 years and can be easily maintained by the beneficiary.

The wells are located in convenient locations, often between clusters of houses.

Note: A well can take up to 3/4 weeks to complete as in some locations they can only be constructed during certain times of the year.
