The people we distribute your Qurbani meat to struggle to earn enough to cover even basic needs like food, water and shelter. With limited resources and little government help, most families’ diets are inadequate, and children are malnourished. ‘Their meat will not reach Allah, nor will their blood. It is your piety that reaches Him.’ (Quran 22:37)

The meat is shared to those in need, after the sacrifice of the animal.

For every Muslim, it is obligatory to give Qurbani if you financially able to do so. Muslims must follow the Qurbani rules before sacrificing an animal which consists of which animals can be sacrificed, the quality of the life it has led, its health status and following the guidelines on how the sacrifice should be carried out.

Alternatively, you can donate your Qurbani to ‘Most Needy’ and your Qurbani will be allocated where the need is greatest.

Through your generosity, many will enjoy their Eid ul-Adha celebrations too. After all,
some only eat meat once a year – when they receive Qurbani meat parcels.
When you donate your Qurbani to Ummah Hands, you’re simultaneously helping the
needy and earning abundant rewards by fulfilling your Islamic obligation:

‘So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].’ (Quran 108:2)

The Prophetic Qurbani – Another Sunnah to Follow

Did you know that the Prophet (PBUH) used to offer his sacrifice and then offer a second one for someone in his Ummah who could not afford Qurbani? The Sahaba at the time would also perform a second Qurbani to follow the teachings and emulate the Prophet (PBUH). The practice has been reported in many accounts by Bukhari, Tirmidhi and Adu Dawad.

‘On the authority of Anas Bin Malik (RA), who said, “The Prophet (PBUH) used to offer two rams as sacrifices and I also offer two rams for sacrifice.’ (Bukhari)

This Eid ul-Adha, let’s revive this Sunnah and earn double rewards. When contributing, donate two animals or shares, making the intention of Prophetic Qurbani.

Each and every one of us gives Qurbani to help our friends, family and the entire Ummah. Therefore by sacrificing what we have to help those in need, we offer crucial solidarity and hope. Right now, a staggering 1 in 9 people worldwide are battling chronic hunger.  However, there is hope: by giving Qurbani, you can feed a family in need this Eid.

The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah (the 10 best days) are the most sacred days of the year, loved by Allah (SWT). Therefore, by giving to Ummah Hands, you can reap the rewards of this blessed month, as Allah (SWT) tells us in the Holy Qur’an:

“So turn in prayer towards your Lord and sacrifice.” (108:2)

Who is eligible for Qurbani?

Ummah Hands has a set criteria to determine who is able to give Qurbani. The is based on the following criteria:
  • Families who live on less than the minimum income for that particular country
  • Female-headed households
  • Families with disabled and/or elderly persons
  • Children under five years old
  • Pregnant women
  • Breastfeeding mothers
  • Families with little or no access to the market

An assessment is then carried out by our teams to identify the weighting and priority of each of the above criteria. These are then applied when selecting families to ensure we reach the most vulnerable without bias.

Who has to give Qurbani?

Qurbani is obligatory upon every Muslim male/female who has wealth in excess to his/her needs. Those who are eligible to pay Zakat are obliged to give Qurbani.

When is Qurbani 2022 performed?

Qurbani in 2022 will be performed after the Eid Salah. The sacrifice will take place from after the Eid prayer on Eid al-Adha (10th Dhul Hijjah) and ends up to sunset on the 13th Dhul Hijjah. Different scholars have different opinions whether Qurbani can be performed over three or four days. To respect this difference of opinion, Ummah Hands strives to perform Qurbani in the three days.

Eid al Adha is also known to be the Qurbani Eid, and follows the completion of the annual Hajj pilgrimage.
