4.9 million people in Bangladesh don’t have access to safe water. In rural areas, 97% of the population relies on tube wells. Without them, people have to drink pond or lake water, which is often contaminated. Consuming water used for washing, sanitation and watering animals, causes diarrheal diseases, especially in children. For communities living in poverty and with limited access to medical support, this is crippling. Unsafe water is the single biggest obstacle to the development and health of communities in the Global East.
At Ummah Hands, we build tube wells to give clean water to village communities in Bangladesh. Tube wells provide pure ground water, which protects people from water-borne diseases.
